We’ve all heard of honeymoons and mini-moons, but what about a pre-moon? A pre-moon does exactly what it says on the tin – a break away before you get married. But why would you do it, with so many other things going on? And is it just another luxury? Read on to find out what we are seeing as one of the next big wedding trends for!
With many of our couples already working long hours and struggling to juggle their existing responsibilities as it is, planning a wedding on top of this can be just an additional stress. Add to this the pressures from friends, family and social media, and it can often easily become all too much. Whilst as wedding planners we are here to relieve you of much of that stress, there are a number of other reasons people are opting to take a pre-moon – to spend some quality time together, to top up the tan, or to just to ensure they are relaxed and reinvigorated ahead of their big day.
In the run-up to our own big day, the wedding planning was beginning to take its toll. Moving house precisely six weeks before our wedding day, juggling a knee injury resulting in me being on crutches weeks before our wedding, and finalising the little details for our big day meant a LOT of stress. Our to-do list only seemed to be ever-growing, and it was impossible to know whether to juggle doing jobs around our new house or for the wedding.
We were getting little sleep, the wedding planning started to become a chore and less than two weeks before the wedding, we decided enough was enough. We were losing sight of what really mattered, and realised that even if we imposed a ban on house jobs and wedmin, in reality we’d struggle to really stop and switch off.
We were fortunate in that the weekend before our wedding was the late August bank holiday. After a quick browse online, I managed to find luxury shepherds huts buried deep in the Suffolk countrywide. These high quality en-suite glamping huts were exactly what we needed.
Situated in the middle of a field, we were not only surrounded by total peace and quiet, but also in what happened to be a mobile signal dead-zone – meaning sneaky last minute wedmin was impossible!
We enjoyed lazy days at the nearby beaches of Aldeburgh and Walberswick, soaking up the sun on the sandy dunes. The wedding diet went completely out of the window as we drank rosé in pub gardens and ate fish and chips, but I didn’t care. We rustled up a seafood feast back in our shepherds hut of freshly caught crab, oysters and prawns, and washed it down with champagne, toasting one week until our wedding. We talked about everything OTHER than houses and weddings, and we slept and slept and slept.
It only took two nights away, but it made the world of difference. Coming back home, we felt refreshed, relaxed, and full of excitement once again as we counted down the final days until our wedding. With the to-do list having been put on the back-burner, we had focused on having FUN – we had spent every minute laughing and enjoying each other’s company and remembering exactly why we were getting married in the first place.
With all the social media pressure and little details to remember, it’s all too easy to lose track of what’s important and why you’re even getting married – but, the pre-moon was the perfect solution and so worth it. For all the couples out there feeling the last-minute pressures building – take a look at our top three pre-moon ideas below!
